January 21-27, 2020

Yellowstone is an extraordinary place, but perhaps even more so in the wintertime. The diversity of both wildlife and landscapes make this a premier destination for nature photographers. When deep snows and icy temps grip the region, many of the park's animals migrate out of the backcountry and into the lower elevation areas, where it is warmer and more hospitable. The never-ending steam from geysers and other geothermal areas fills the atmosphere with plumes of white clouds, creating a stark contrast against the snowy landscape, and turning the trees into ghostly statues in this ethereal world of wonder. Under this thick blanket of snow, the heart of Yellowstone beats loudly, and the landscape is teeming with the incredible sights and sounds of nature. Bison trudge through the deep snowpack, moose and elk browse in glistening meadows, coyotes and foxes dive head first into the snow looking for rodents, wolves trot across wide open valleys, bald eagles and bobcats patrol the river's edge, looking for their next meal. During Yellowstone's infamous winters, it's all about survival for these animals.

Of the 5 full days of photography allotted for this adventure, we will dedicate all 5 of those days traveling by snow coach into the heart of Yellowstone, through some of the most productive areas in the park for winter wildlife, as well as the endless landscape opportunities that exist here. Along the way, we will have countless opportunities for scenic snowscapes, "ghost trees", steaming geysers, frozen waterfalls, and numerous species of wildlife, including but not limited to red foxes, bison, gray wolves, bald eagles, elk, river otters, ermine, trumpeter swans, coyotes, and possibly even bobcats.

Join me on this incredible journey into one of the most wondrous places on earth, Yellowstone in winter, and experience the magic for yourself!
