The Milky Way Galaxy arcs brilliantly across the night sky above Great Northern Mountain. From the high alpine meadow where I stood, the galaxy felt closer than usual. The meadow below lay quiet and dark, its wildflowers glowing faintly in the starlight. I captured this during a backpacking trip deep in the wilderness, far from city lights and distractions. My tent was pitched in the shadow of a stand of small trees nearby, overlooking the rugged peaks of Glacier Park and the vast expanse of the Great Bear Wilderness. After a long day on the trail, I waited for darkness to fully settle, stepping out into the crisp night air as the last trace of twilight faded from the western sky.
