The morning after an autumn snowstorm, a photographer friend and I trudged through deep, powdery snow toward a small lake in Glacier that’s often frequented by moose. When we arrived, the shoreline was quiet and the lake was still. Fresh tracks in the snow told a different story, though—moose had clearly been moving through the area not long before our arrival. With soft overcast light and a pristine layer of fresh snow, the conditions felt perfect for photography, so we decided to wait it out in hopes that one might return.
